And we’re back to the vacation…
On this day we were in Switzerland, and we went on hike. We started out at Piz Gloria, one of the world’s highest revolving restaurants. I love a good revolving restaurant, so I was doubly excited to see what it had to offer and see the 360° view of the alps. The restaurant was kind of a let down. The views, though, were more than I could have ever imagined.
We wandered around the platform area, taking pictures of each other like real tourists. Then we headed out on the ledge of the mountain. I was amazed at how blasé all of Europe was about safety. Some cliffs had absolutely no railing, and we’d randomly come across stairs that steeply lead to nothing but the side of a mountain, but then there were these guys…
Since the day we arrived in Murren, we’d seen parachutes floating by, gradually making their way to the valley below. We wondered where they came from, and then as we were making our way out to see what we could see, these two guys pushed past and proceeded to jump off the side of the cliff on which I was desperately trying to keep my footing.
After watching in amazement, we decided to head down off the mountain. We’d had enough of the altitude.
Our hike took us down what we thought was a winding path, marked along the way with these. But we noticed, quickly, that these began to steeply descend just as our winding path turned into a climb straight down. Okay, I’m being a little dramatic, but it was quite the hike; it proved to both of us that we’re old, and our knees hurt. Such is life of a newly wed, I guess.
Here are a few more pictures of our hike through the Swiss Alps.
PS. Sorry for all the pictures of Derek and I. My mom likes to see pictures of us.
